Sarawak hosts International Museum Day 2023
Make your way to Borneo Cultures Museum in Kuching this week for the national-level International Museum Day (IMD) celebrations!Happening from 31 July to 5 August, the 27th edition of IMD takes on the theme ‘Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing’, with an aim to increase community awareness on the importance of museum institutions in the growth of the community as well as the preservation of national treasures.
Comprising a total of 800 delegates representing 27 museums from all over Malaysia, this is the third time that the IMD is hosted by Sarawak and organised by the Malaysia Museum Department as well as the Sarawak Museum Department. With exhibitions and activities for the whole family, the celebration takes place on the grounds of both the Borneo Cultures Museum and the Old Sarawak Museum.
On July 31, the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg officially kicked off the event and even took the time to visit the delegates in their respective booths. The Premier was accompanied by Deputy Premier, Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian, State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister of Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Malaysia Museum Department Director, Datuk Kamarul Baharin A. Kasim and Sarawak Museum Department Director, Nancy Jolhi.
